The University coat of arms is the image of an open book in the temple of knowledge with the medical emblem in the centre: a serpent
The University flag has been sewn out of white silk and gold-thread. According to the heraldic tradition, the emblem and the name Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" have been embroidered in blue on white silk background. The flag is kept in the Assembly hall and is used on certain solemn occasions. A special student and two assistants elected by the Student Council have the honour to carry the flag.
SYMBOLS OF RECTOR'S STATUS
The University mace is crowned by two crisscrossing spheres and a serpent in the centre symbolizing medical knowledge, power and dignity. Its origin is related to the ancient symbol of medicine: Asclepius's staff and a serpent entwined around it. The top of the staff is a jade ball, the stone of eternity, strength and knowledge.
The Rector's necklace has a round shape which symbolizes the infinity of scientific knowledge. The medallion is made of bronze.The University logo is engraved in its centre. The foundation is made of blue stone symbolizing human ideals. The University coat of arms is engraved on the Dean's necklace.

The Rector's toga is black with a red scarf.
It has been introduced and established in the academic ceremony as a sign of the Rector's dignity and prestige.
The symbols of the Rector's status are worn during:
- University festivities;
- Solemn processions;
- Official meetings of the Academic Council.
SYMBOLS OF DEAN'S STATUS

The Dean's Necklace depicts the Coat of Arms of the University.

The Dean's Toga has a cherry-red colour with cuffs and a scarf of the same colour.
The symbols of Dean's status are worn during:
- University and Faculty holidays;
- Solemn processions;
- Official meetings of the Academic and Faculty Council.

Symbols of Alumni's Status |
The symbols of alumni's dignity are worn during diploma award ceremonies.
- Official opening of the academic year: the first year students are introduced to the academic society
- Graduation ceremonies
- University's foundation day and anniversary is celebrated on October 1st.
- Day of the leaders of the Bulgarian National Revival – November 1st
- Day of Slavic alphabet and culture - May 24th
- Students'day - December 8th.
DISTINCTIONS AND AWARDS
By decision of the
Academic Council of Medical University – Varna, the University bestows
the following distinctions for excellence in training and research
activities, and for long-standing successful work in the staff of the
University:
The Honorary Title
"Doctor Honoris Causa" of Medical
University - Varna, for outstanding contribution to the development of
the University and the health system in Bulgaria. The
title of Doctor honoris causa is bestowed on prominent Bulgarian and
foreign physicians and scientists for their outstanding achievement in
the field of medical science and practice, medical education, in the
field of public health and their contribution to the development and
enhancement of the prestige of Medical University - Varna. |  |

Honorаry Blue Ribbon Sign
of MU-Varna - an award in the field of science and higher
education, founded in 2003, is bestowed on lecturers, scientists,
research teams in recognition of outstanding achievement in research,
training and medical treatment activities in the past and present years.
Honorary Blue Ribbon Sign of MU-Varna - an award in the field
of science and higher education, founded in 2003, is bestowed to
lecturers, scientists, research teams in recognition of outstanding
achievement in research, training and treatment activities in the past
and present years. The award
is conferred for excellence in the development and establishment of
fundamental sciences in higher education - pre-clinic, clinic, health
management, public health, enhancing the academic authority of MU-Varna. It
is aimed to stimulate the development and achievements of science and
higher education. It is bestowed personally by the Rector at a solemn
ceremony and consists of an honorary diploma and a medallion with a blue
ribbon.
