Биография

Assоc. Prof. Maria Panteleeva-Popova, MD, PhD was born on 20.09.1961 in Varna. She graduated from the English Language High School - Varna in 1980 and from the Higher Medical Institute - Varna in 1986. She worked in the Department of Hygiene of Childhood and Adolescence in Hygiene and epidemiological inspection - Shumen.

In 2004 she started working as a resident in the Organizational and Information Department at the Hygiene and epidemiological inspection - Varna; from 2005 to September 2013 she was successively Senior expert, Chief expert, Chief inspector in the Directorate " Administrative, legal, financial and business services" of the Regional Inspectorate for Protection and Control of Public Health, later renamed as Regional Health Inspectorate - Varna. From September 2013 after a selection process, she was appointed as a full-time assistant.

In 2016 she also lectured at Rousse University "Angel Kanchev", in the specialty of Preschool and Primary School Pedagogy - part-time, winter semester, elective course "Disaster Protection and First Aid" and in the specialty of Kinesitherapy (Bachelor's degree) - full-time, summer semester, compulsory course "First Aid".

In September 2018, Dr. Panteleeva completed her dissertation on "Possible Environmental Risks in Varna Region and the Role of Pharmacists in Industrial Accidents and Chemical Terrorism" at the Medical University - Varna and obtained her PhD in Disaster Medicine.

From 2019 she holds the academic position of „Chief Assistant Professor", and from 2023 - "Associate Professor" in the specialty "Disaster Medicine".

In 2020, she obtained a specialty in Disaster Medicine.

Dr. Panteleeva has participated in the anti-terrorism seminars organized by the Medical University - Varna. She has participated in the scientific conferences of the International Medical Association Bulgaria (IMAB) and of the Bulgarian Scientific Society Of Public Health, as well as in the annual editions of the Festival "Sea and Health" of MU-Varna. 

Her main research interests are in the field of Disaster Medicine

  • Chemical accidents and consequences for Varna region causing health and environmental problems;
  • The role of pharmacists in mass casualty incidents and disaster situations;
  • Psychological aspects of first aid in disaster situations, recognition and coping with stress;
  • Anthropogenic air pollution and population health implications;
  • Environmental risks of marine pollution;
  • Management and organisation of population protection in disasters;
  • Nutrition as a population health factor. 

Qualifications

- 2022 - "Instructor Training" at the Executive Agency "Maritime Administration" under the Ministry of Transport.

- 2022 - "Assessment, testing and certification of seafarers" at the Executive Agency "Maritime Administration" under the Ministry of Transport.

- 2002 - Diplome de therapeutique homeopathique CEDH 0110/2002, "Homeopathic Therapy" CEDH, MU-Sofia - basic two-year course with 192 hours of homeopathic therapy.

- Intensive Summer Course in Epidemiology and Biostatistics in Public Health, TEMPUS JEN 03604, Erasmus University, Department of Epidemiology and Biostatistics - Cambridge University, Institute of Public Health - Medical University-Varna, Department of Public Health and Social Medicine; Varna, 8-18.06 1997

- 1996 - Basic course in General Medicine under PHARE programme (272 hrs. theory and practical skills) and others.

She participated in various training courses: training in using the StrikePlagiarism platform (2023), a course in French B1 (2009), a thematic course "Application of basic statistical analyses in the processing of health and hygiene information" - NPHI (2006), Health Information Systems in Europe (2005), etc.

Scientific supervisor of a PhD student enrolled in the scientific specialty "Disaster Medicine".

Fluent in English and Russian, and uses Spanish, German and French.

 

Публикации

She has over 40 scientific publications and more than 50 participations in scientific conferences.

She is a co-author of a textbook on Disaster Medicine "Bilingual Glossary", published in 2019.

In 2023, she published a monograph entitled: "Characteristics of major disasters and recommendations for proper behavior. Natural Disasters."
