A series of events, dedicated to
the European Day of the Sea, was launched with a poster science session,
presenting innovative discoveries and long-lasting studies of lecturers and
students from the medical universities connected with the sea.
25 works were exhibited in the lobby and corridors on the
2nd floor of MU-Varna and evaluated by a committee, including Assoc. Prof.
Dimitar Stavrev, head of discipline “Maritime Medicine”, Prof. Dr. Teofan
Kuyumdzhiev from the Department of “Disaster Medicine and Maritime Medicine”
and captain distant voyage Aleksandar Aleksandrov, who served as director of
the Bulgarian Maritime Training Center. The posters were awarded in the categories
“Content”, “Aesthetic Design” and “Originality”.
The series of events continued
with an intriguing programme, which took place at Azalia Hotel, St. St.
Constantine and Elena Resort. Throughout the day the guests at the festival had
the opportunity to enjoy Thalassotherapy procedures for face and body - “The
Power of the Sea in Favour of Beauty”, prepared by the students majoring in “Medical
Cosmetician”.
Plenty of fun and surprises accompanied the workshop
for creating objects from sea materials. Children and parents created beautiful
items and had fun throughout the day. They presented their works of art and
after evaluating them, the jury awarded the participants with special
certificates of participation.
The organizers had prepared a water
life-saving demonstration in an accident at sea. Professional sea lifeguards
from the Bulgarian Red Cross showed what techniques need to be taken in case of
disaster at sea and made demonstrative life-saving of a drowning man who had
fallen from a boat.
Demonstrative scuba diving
started in the waters of the Black Sea with the participation of students from MU-Varna
and N. J. Vaptsarov Naval Academy at 12 o'clock sharp. The physiological
indicators of the divers before and after diving were measured. The aim was to
check the changes in some indicators in the diver's body. Pulse acceleration, a
slight increase in the breathing capacity and a slight drop in the oxygen
content of blood were reported.
The participants also had the opportunity to get their first water training
lesson in kayak, conducted by the best instructors in the city.
For the first time this year the
only Bulgarian Museum of the History of Medicine took part in the initiative
entitled European Night of Museums and Galleries. The organizers welcomed the visitors
with a diverse educational and entertainment programme. The evening began with
a series of presentations on the exhibition “Maritime Varna - a Glimpse
into the Past and Today”, the history of the creation and development of the
museum, as well as some of the artifacts exhibited there. The entertainment
part of the programme was presented by the Divertimento Trio, which took care
of the high spirits of the guests, performing brass symphonic music. The
10-year-old Monika Parusheva - a laureate of many international competitions
and the dancing ensemble of MU-Varna with an artistic director Diana Dimitrova had
prepared awesome performances for the visitors of the museum. The team of the
first University MU-VI.Tv had prepared a series of
documentary films, telling the history of medicine in Varna and the Black Sea
region.
The “Miss and Mister Medical
University” competition, organized by the Student Council, was also part of the
Sea, Health and Beauty Festival. The event was held in "X Club" in
several rounds, during which the participants had the opportunity to reveal
more about themselves, presenting themselves in formal, medical and chosen by
them clothing and answering questions posed by the show leaders - Teodora
Duhovnikova and Vladimir Karamazov. The Deep Zone Project Group, the hip-hop
dancers from the Creators, the folklore dance ensemble of MU-Varna and the Art
Deco acrobats created a pleasant atmosphere during the competition. The jury
awarded the prizes to Miss Yanitsa Boikova, majoring in Dental Medicine, 3rd
year of study, and Mister Yunuz Mehmed, majoring in Dental Medicine, 1st
year of study. Many other awards were also presented.
