MU-Varna signed a tripartite agreement with AO Research Institute Davos (Switzerland) and the Technical University of Varna

A tripartite collaboration agreement between Varna Medical University, AO Research Institute Davos (Switzerland) and the Technical University in Varna was signed on 27th September 2017. The agreement envisages joint scientific research, organization of trainings, conferences, scientific practices, qualification improvement courses, innovation technologies as well as joint guidance of PhD students and young researchers.

The Research Institute of AO Foundation in Davos is one of the most prestigious and leading centres in Europe and worldwide providing training of specialists, research and innovations in the fields of trauma, spine, cranial and maxillofacial surgery. The complicated nature of these fields require the training of multidisciplinary teams and often necessitates the solution of specific cases and research by the joint efforts of dental physicians, orthopedists, traumatologists, neurosurgeons and other medical specialists and their fellows from the engineering specialties.

Prof. Geoff Richards – AO Director for Research and Development and Prof. Boyko Georgiev – Programme Leader for Biomedical Development signed the cooperation agreement for the Swiss party. In the discussion focusing on the concrete forthcoming joint activities for 2018 and 2019, the Medical University of Varna was represented by Prof. Tsvetan Tonchev – Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine and Prof. Metodi Abadjiev – Vice Dean, who actually established the contact with AO Foundation.


Support was agreed for the congress of maxillofacial surgery which is going to be held in April 2018 in Varna together with the organization of a course in maxillofacial surgery in 2019, which is going to be conducted by AO Foundation for the first time in Bulgaria, one 6-month fellowship funded by AO Foundation and educational training packages for teachers of nursing care for qualification improvement of hospital nurses.  


The partners expressed their admiration for the technologies and the training facilities, the large number of foreign students studying at MU – Varna as well as their satisfaction with the negotiations and the signing of the cooperation agreement.
