The new academic year 2017/2018 at
Medical University – Varna was opened today with a solemn religious ceremony
for health and wellbeing, served by Father Yasen, and people in
the Cathedral “The Assumption of the Holy Mother”. The Rector Prof.
Krasimir Ivanov welcomed the students, who crossed the threshold of the University for the 56th consecutive time.
“I congratulate you on your courage to choose an educational establishment with a long history and high academic requirements, requirements which we have set
ourselves as management and lecturers, requirements that we will have for
you, our students, so
that in the end you could come out proud,
confident and with
self-confidence in
front of your patients. I am sure that interweaving this courage of yours with the bright mind and intellectual potential you have shown at this year’s
competition, you will find your place here, and you will be able to experience the magic of the academic spirit.”
Representatives of the first-year
students, who have achieved the
highest score at the admission examinations in the specialties of Medicine, Dental
Medicine, Pharmacy, Nursing Care, Midwifery and Medical Cosmetician, and in the
newly introduced specialty of Military Doctor, took the traditional
for the first day at MU-Varna “Oath of Dedication to Medicine”. The outstanding graduates of Medicine of Class 2017
Katerina Shirokova and Savi Shishkov put white coats on their new
colleagues to symbolically make them a part of the medical profession.
The new academic year was opened also in the Affiliates of MU-Varna in
Sliven, Veliko Tarnovo and Shumen, where the students are
trained in the
specialties of Nursing Care and Midwifery.
Prof. Ivanov wished the students fair
winds and following seas, and according to the ancient Bulgarian custom, he poured some water in front of the threshold of the University, which
this year was
crossed by
nearly 1 400 first-year students, including 300 foreign students. Moreover, for the first time
MU-Varna has
welcomed the first-year students from the new specialties of Military Doctor
and Military Nursing Care, which were introduced in cooperation with Naval Academy N.
Y. Vaptsarov.
