The research activity in the Department of Microbiology and Virology is carried out in close coordination with the Laboratory of Clinical Microbiology and Virology at the University Hospital "St. Marina" - Varna.
The main scientific studies are in the following areas:
- spread of viral and bacterial and mycotic infections in Northeastern Bulgaria;
- role of infectious pathogens in patients at risk under immunosuppression and after organ transplantation;
- monitoring and mechanisms of antibacterial resistance;
- etiological spectrum of nosocomial infections.
In recent years, the lecturers from the department have numerous publications in Bulgarian and foreign medical journals and have participated in a number of scientific forums in Bulgaria and abroad. Habilitated lecturers from the department participate in the editorial boards of Bulgarian medical and biomedical journals.
