Prof. Dr. Mariya Negreva was born in 1981 in the city of Vratsa. She graduated with honours from the First Language High School in Varna in 2000, and MU-Varna - in 2006. She started her professional career as an attending physician at the Intensive Cardiology Department of UMHAT “St. Marina"-Varna in 2006, where she still works. Prof. Dr. Negreva was appointed a full-time Assistant-Professor of Cardiology at the Department of Internal Diseases in 2008. In 2015, after defending a dissertation thesis entitled “Dynamics of Oxidative Status in Patients with Paroxysmal Atrial Fibrillation", she was awarded the educational and scientific degree “Doctor of Philosophy" (PhD) in Medicine, and in 2016 she was elected to the academic position of Associate Professor of Cardiology at the Department of Internal Diseases at MU-Varna. Prof. Dr. Negreva obtained a speciality in Cardiology in 2012. She completed a long-term specialisation in echocardiography in the period 2008-2009, following an invitation to the University Hospital in Augsburg (Germany). Her research activities are mainly focused on rhythm disorders, in particular atrial fibrillation. In this regard, she has conducted joint research with the Institute of Neurobiology at BAS, the Institute of Robotics at BAS, the National Centre of Public Health and Analyses, the Analytical and Laboratory Activities Directorate, as well as the Transfusion Haematology Laboratory at the National Specialised Hospital for Active Treatment of Haematological Diseases-Sofia.
