Prof. Miglena Georgieva, MD, PhD was born in Varna in 1961. She is a graduate of the IV "Frederic Joliot Curie" Highschool, where she graduated with excellent grades. She graduated in medicine in 1986 in Leningrad - "Leningrad Pediatric Medical Institute" with full honors. In 1996 she defended her dissertation in the field of pediatric gastroenterology. In 1992, she became a specialist in Pediatrics, and in 2005 - in Pediatric gastroenterology. In 2010 she became an Associated Professor at the Department of Pediatrics and Medical Genetics, Medical University Varna. In 2018, she became a specialist in Nutrition and dietetics. Since 1. 04. 2014 and currently she is the Head of the Second Children's Clinic at the University Hospital "St. Marina" Varna. She works in the field of pediatric gastroenterology and nutrition. She has specialized in Poland, Slovenia, Spain and Austria.
She has over 200 publications and participantions in Bulgarian and foreign journals, congresses and conferences. She is co-author of 5 monographs, studies and manuals. The main topics she works on are - functional gastrointestinal diseases, Helicobacter pylori infection, celiac disease, food allergy, chronic viral hepatitis, cystic fibrosis, autism. She has been the Director of the Cystic Fibrosis Expert Centre since 2020. She is the leader of two projects at the Science Fund. Under her supervision, one dissertation was defended and six more dissertations are being developed. She was voted "favorite faculty member" of the medical students, class of 2014 and 2016.
She has more than 150 contributions and publications in scientific congresses at Bulgaria and abroad. The main publications are in the field of diseases of the upper digestive tract, Helicobacter infection, liver pathology, food allergy, application of probiotics, etc. She has abstracts, publications and interests in clinical nutrition. She is involved in research in the field of pediatric gastroenterology and hepatology.
She is a member of the Bulgarian Pediatric Association (in the Board of Directors), the Bulgarian Scientific Society of Gastroenterology, the Bulgarian Medical Association, BULSPEN, ICMART, Societе Franсaise de Pеdiatrie, ESPGHAN, ESPEN. She has been President of the Bulgarian Society of Pediatric Gastroenterology since 2015.
