2000 Visitors Were a Part of the Open Days at MU - Varna

For yet another year Medical University - Varna welcomed prospective students, parents, teachers and guests to the traditional Open Doors Days on 22nd and 23rd March. Over 2000 visitors from Varna, Shumen, Veliko Tarnovo, Ruse, Yambol, Stara Zagora, Dobrich, Burgas, Silistra, Karnobat, Gorna Oryahovitsa and other cities had the opportunity to get in touch with the vast world of medical science at the most modern and high-tech medical university in Bulgaria.

The visitors were acquainted with the programmes of study and the curricula at the Faculties of Medicine, Dental Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health and the Medical College.

This year's innovative technology element in the presentation of the University was the 3D Air LED display, which aroused interest among all guests. Representatives of the Student Council guided the visitors in the various premises in the buildings and, together with the experts from the Student Affairs Office, provided answers to their questions. The perspective students had the opportunity to immerse themselves in the atmosphere of academic life, and they shared that it had been very useful for them to talk to students, lecturers and university graduates.

The attendees were able to acquire information on the proposed majors and the application procedure, to have a look at the simulators used for student training, the  museum anatomy collections of 3D holograms, to get to know the model for creating anatomic models using 3D printers. They attended a variety of chemical tests, attractive laboratory experiments, microscopic and macroscopic observations, live demonstrations with high-tech equipment, and virtual classroom demonstration, the presentation of the Blackboard Learning Platform, and simulation software for physiological experiments and research. The first Bulgarian laparoscopic surgery simulator was located at one of the University auditoria, where, under the guidance of a specialist, visitors could try performing operative activities. Presentations of some of the newest and most desirable programmes, among which “Speech Therapy” and “Health Management” were presented in front of the guests. First and second-year students in the innovative project of MU-Varna and Nikola Vaptsarov Naval Academy - the programme of “Military Doctor” acquainted the perspective students with the specific characteristics of the training.


Among the interesting activities included in the programme was a visit to the first University Pharmacy in the country at the Faculty of Pharmacy. The visitors were also acquainted with the opportunities for sports and cultural life provided by the University, as well as with the films produced by MU-Vi.Tv.

Prophylactic examinations were performed at the Faculty of Dental Medicine, and at the Faculty of Pharmacy high school students could watch demonstrations of the preparation of medicines, extraction of medicinal substances from medicinal plants, and demonstration of a method for DNA purification and visualization.


The Affiliate of MU-Varna in Veliko Tarnovo also provoked serious interest among the visitors. More than 60 people from Veliko Tarnovo, Sofia, Stara Zagora, Gabrovo visited the Open Days and took part in measuring blood pressure and body mass index. Those who were interested had a chance to watch a cesarean delivery via a video link, and were extremely impressed by the opportunities offered at the Affiliate. Open Doors Days will also be held at Shumen Affiliate on 27th March.

This year again a prize-giving lottery, which has become a tradition, was held, and the winners will be announced on the site of MU-Varna on 1st April 2019.
