World Breastfeeding Week is celebrated annually from 1 to 8 August in more than 170 countries worldwide, a global initiative targeted at providing support for mothers and their babies during the breastfeeding period. This year's slogan of the campaign, which has been held for the 28th consecutive time, is "Support Breastfeeding for a Healthier Planet".
Third-year students, majoring in Midwifery at Shumen Affiliate, once again took part in the celebration of World Breastfeeding Week. They disseminated information brochures about the benefits of breastfeeding, and with the mentorship of Assoc. Prof. Teodora Evtimova - Deputy Director of Shumen Affiliate and Senior Midwife Veska Raycheva, consulted mothers at the Maternity Ward of MHAT - Shumen for a successful start of breastfeeding. The campaign was conducted in cooperation with the Centre for Maternal and Child Health in Shumen.
An essential part of successful breastfeeding is the adequate awareness and motivation of the breastfeeding woman, and the opportunity to access competent advice and support. Obstetric consultations will charge parents with confidence in the success of long-term breastfeeding.
