The new President of the Association of University Hospitals in the Republic of Bulgaria (AUHRB) is Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov. He was elected by the General Assembly of the Association, which also adopted the report on the activities of AUHRB for the period of 2014-2019. During this period the President was Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov.
The main emphasis in the report was placed on the funding of university hospitals in the conditions of health care system reform, and the protection of the rights of the employees working in it. The report also drew the attention to the active participation of the management of the Association in all negotiations at a national level regarding the signing of the National Framework Contract with the National Health Insurance Fund, as well as in the work of the parliamentary health committee for elaboration of the legal regulations.
As a significant achievement over the past term of office was underlined the incorporation of AUHRB to the European Hospital and Healthcare Federation, whose major mission is to promote the policies and practices in hospital healthcare of the countries of Europe related to the improvement of hospital care, promoting the efficiency of health services and human resources.
The new AUHRB Board of Directors has the ambitions to continue the policy and to actively support the further successful implementation of the health reform in Bulgaria, striving to achieve higher quality of medical services, quality medical university education, adequate working conditions for the medical personnel, and adequate remuneration for their work.
Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov, DSc has been the Rector of Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" - Varna for two consecutive terms of office within the period of 2012-2020, and before that he was an Executive Director of University Hospital "St. Marina "- Varna in the period 2001-2010. He is a National Consultant in Surgery and an Honorary Member of the German Surgical Society.
Prof. Ivanov graduated from MU-Varna in 1986. He has acquired specialties in Surgery and Oncology, and Master's Degrees in Business Administration and Health Management. His main professional and research interests lie in the fields of benign and malignant diseases of the gastrointestinal tract (oncology surgery), laparoscopic surgery, robotic surgery, telemedicine and telesurgery. He is a member of: IASGO (International Association of Surgeons Gastroenterologists and Oncologists); ISUCRS (International Society of University Colon and Rectal Surgeons); Bulgarian Surgical Society; Bulgarian Medical Association; Union of Scientists in Bulgaria. He has more than 350 scientific publications and numerous awards as a doctor, manager and public figure.
