Тhe specialty "PUBLIC HEALTH INSPECTOR" at the Medical College was established in 1983. It trains health professionals who carry out state health control with the aim of preserving and strengthening public health in the Republic of Bulgaria. This is a state health activity related to the control and enforcement of health requirements established by legal acts, including: control of public facilities; control of products, goods, and activities of significance to human health; control of environmental conditions; and surveillance of communicable diseases.
Opportunities for Realization:
The acquired professional competence will enable newly graduated health professionals to find employment as:
- Inspectors in specialized departments of Regional Health Inspections, Regional Directorates for Food Safety;
- Specialists in organisation, management, and control within state, municipal, and public institutions engaged in activities related to the protection and promotion of health;
- Specialists in the control of hospital-acquired infections, disinfection, and sterilisation in healthcare facilities providing inpatient and outpatient care;
- Specialists in industrial, manufacturing, and commercial organisations in activities concerning occupational health and safety, risk assessment, and the safety of manufactured products;
- Specialists in occupational health services;
- Specialists in services for "Disinfection, Disinfestation, and Deratization."
Opportunities for Further Qualification:
Graduates can continue their education through the specialization system to obtain a specific non-clinical specialty, as well as to pursue academic degrees such as
Bachelor or
Master in fields like
Public Health Protection and Control,
Health Management and Medico-Social Care,
Health Care Management, and others.
Accreditation Evaluation:
The most recent regular program accreditation of the
Public Health Inspector speciality was granted on January 12, 2023, with a score of 9.11. The accreditation is valid until the next scheduled evaluation of Professional Field 7.5, in accordance with the timeline set out in Article 78 of the Higher Education Act.
Research Activity
The Department of
Public Health Inspector employs two habilitated lecturers (Associate Professors), three Chief Assistants (PhDs in Public Health), and one Assistant.
The total number of publications by faculty and students from the
Public Health Inspector Department for the period 2021–2025 is 110, including 6 co-authored with 15 students. During this period, faculty members have participated in 39 scientific forums together with 15 students and have been involved in 8 regional and national projects, 3 of which included the participation of 41 students.
Three Erasmus mobilities have also been carried out.
