MU-Varna celebrated with a special event the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the Department of Periodontology and Dental Implantology. The Department is the first of its kind in our country and with its foundation in 2013 Medical University-Varna and the Faculty of Dental Medicine marked the beginning of the academic Dental Implantology in Bulgaria.
The solemn event was opened by the Dean of the Faculty Prof. Dr. Stefan Peev, who is also the founder of the Department. With a special presentation Prof. Peev outlined the success and achievements of the Department from its establishment until now. He emphasised that its foundation in 2013 was in response to the progress of Dental Medicine worldwide and to the growing need for training high-quality specialists in the field of Dental Implantology.
Today, the Department implements the latest and innovative methodologies for teaching specialised disciplines. Prof. Peev underlined that the first modern simulation training in Periodontology was introduced there. Two high-tech laboratories were opened – for Histomorphometry and Materialography and for Tissue Lyophilisation. They provide an opportunity for practical training of students and for the development of research activities at MU-Varna.
Guests at the solemn celebration were members of the academic management of MU-Varna. Congratulations were delivered by Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov – Rector of MU-Varna in the period 2012-2020 and Chairman of the General Assembly of MU-Varna. A congratulatory address on behalf of the Rector of MU-Varna was presented by Prof. Dr. Yoto Yotov – Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at MU-Varna. Congratulatory addresses were received from Prof. Dr. Silva Andonova – Executive Director of UMHAT “St. Marina"–Varna and Prof. Dr. Rosen Kolarov – Director of Executive agency “Medical supervision".
Official guests at the event were Prof. Dr. Bozhidar Yordanov – Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine at MU-Sofia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Elitsa Deliverska – Vice Rector at MU-Sofia, Assoc. Prof. Dr. Deyan Neychev – Dean of the Faculty of Dental Medicine at MU-Plovdiv. Jubilee plaques were awarded to personalities whose names are intertwined with the 10-year history and who have a contribution to the development of the Department.
