From 27 to 29 March 2026, MU–Varna organises the 6th International Symposium on Adipobiology and Adipopharmacology—a scientific forum bringing together leading researchers from Europe, Asia, and America working in the fields of metabolic diseases, adipose tissue biology, and modern therapeutic approaches to obesity.
The Symposium aims to promote international scientific exchange and collaboration in the study of metabolic diseases—one of the most serious challenges facing contemporary public health. During the three-day programme, scientists from Japan, Italy, India, Romania, Serbia, Turkey, Austria, Mexico, and Bulgaria will deliver lectures and discuss current scientific findings and future research directions. The latest scientific advances related to the role of adipose tissue in human health and disease will be presented, including research on metabolic syndrome, obesity, cardiovascular diseases, and neurodegenerative disorders.
The main topics of the Symposium also include:
- development of adipose tissue and metabolic programming in early childhood;
- the link between obesity and neurodegenerative diseases;
- novel pharmacological therapies for the treatment of dysfunctional adipose tissue;
- the role of GLP-1 receptor agonists and incretin-based therapies beyond obesity control;
- interactions between adipose tissue, skeletal muscle, heart failure, and cancer.
The programme also includes presentations on the role of artificial intelligence in the histological analysis of adipose tissue, the importance of lipids and oxygen for life, and newly identified mechanisms in the metabolic adaptation of adipocytes.
The Sixth International Symposium on Adipobiology and Adipopharmacology is organised within the framework of Project No. BG-RRP-2.004-0009-C02 of MU – Varna "Enhancement of Translational Excellence Achievement in Medicine (MUVE-TEAM)", funded by the European Union–NextGenerationEU, through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Republic of Bulgaria.
