IN MEMORIAM

Our most respected and beloved lecturer, doctor, public figure and a friend Prof. Dr. Ivan Kozovski left us at the age of 83.

Prof. Kozovski was born on 1st October 1938 in Kozloduy. He graduated from the English Language School in Sofia and Medicine at Humboldt University – Berlin (1963).  He acquired a specialty in Obstetrics and Gynaecology. He worked as an obstetrician-gynaecologist at the regional hospitals in Aytos and Pomorie, and he was the head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at the hospital in Grudovo (Sredets). In 1970 he became an Assistant Professor at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology at MU – Varna, and in 1986 – an Associate Professor. Between 1988-2000 he was the head of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.

In 1975 he defended a dissertation thesis entitled "Treatment of Infertility in the Family with Pomorie Estuarine Mud and Lye in the Pomorie Resort" (supervisor Prof G. Iliev). Under his supervision, two of his associates (Assoc. Prof.  Markova and Assoc. Prof.  Andonov) were habilitated. His main scientific works are dedicated to ultrasound examination in Obstetrics and Gynaecology, caesarean section, postoperative infections and their prevention, urogenital fistulas and assisted reproduction technologies.

Prof. Kozovski is the author of the monographs "Operative Obstetrics" and "Symptoms and Syndromes in Obstetrics and Gynaecology" and a co-author of textbooks on Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Member of the Editorial Board of the scientific journal Obstetrics and Gynaecology. Member of the American Society for Reproductive Medicine (ASRM), the European Association of Gynaecologists and Obstetricians (EAGO) and Vice President of the Republican Society of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.  He was awarded the title of "Medic of the Year" in 2000. He was an active publicist and a public figure, a municipal councillor in Varna Municipality (1999–2001) and a Member of Parliament in the 39th National Assembly.

The entire academic community and the representatives of the medical profession mourn the loss of the personality, the doctor, the lecturer and the public figure Prof. Dr. Ivan Kozovski!
