A new tradition was introduced at Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov"–Varna – solemn initiation of new professors into professorship. The initiative is inspired by the Faculty of Medicine and is aimed at enhancing the importance of academic advancement and esteem for professional expertise.
The first event under this new practice was the public academic lecture by Prof. Dr. Antonia Atanasova - a distinguished lecturer at the Department of Anatomy and Cell Biology, clinician and gastroenterologist, Chair of the Internal Medicine Section of the Union of Scientists in Varna. The topic of the lecture was Artificial Intelligence in Gastroenterology.
“I am extremely excited to be standing before you as a candidate member of the large family of professors at Alma Mater," she told her colleagues.
“The academic title of “Professor" was first used as a prefix to the name in 1706. Ever since its holders have been regarded as a separate community because of their profound expertise and significant contribution to education and science," underlined in his speech the Dean of the Faculty of Medicine Prof. Dr. Yoto Yotov. He traced the historical development of this tradition in the oldest universities in Europe and expressed satisfaction that it was already introduced in the academic life of MU-Varna.
On behalf of the University management, a congratulatory address was sent by the Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Dimitar Raykov to Prof. Dr. Antonia Atanasova, expressing wishes for successful and beneficial academic activities.
