The Vice–Rector for Science and Research at MU-Varna Prof. Dr. Violeta Yotova participated in the regional conference in Varna “Europe in the Balkans: Together through Knowledge", organised by the Bulgarian News Agency (BTA), with the support of the European Commission (EC). The meeting was initiated by the General Director of BTA Mr. Kiril Valchev.
“Varna has always been on the European and world map of medical science. We have always been committed to creating knowledge and conducting research," said Prof. Yotova. According to her, this has become evident over the last period when universities have been evaluated on the basis of their contribution to world science. “We have been working on a huge project amounting to BGN 28 million, which allows us not only to encourage young Bulgarian researchers to return to Varna but also to attract leading scientists from Europe and worldwide to train their new followers here on site," added Prof. Yotova.
The Vice-Rector also underlined that more than 60% of the students at the Faculty of Medicine were foreign students. “We strive to be innovators. In 2024 alone, the funds inflow to Medical University - Varna exceeded BGN 8.5 million. The activities on structural projects are ongoing as follows: "MUVE-TEAM", TRANSTEM (Horizon 2020 programme), CHiP-BiD (VICHREN programme). The implementation and development of internal projects for applied and innovative research within the MUVE-TEAM project are under way, as well as cataloguing the scientific equipment and facilitating the access to it by researchers. The University participates in the Network of Research Universities," explained Prof. Yotova.
In 2024 Medical University - Varna won two new projects under VIHREN programme, and a TEAMING project proposal was submitted under the WIDENING axis of the Horizon Europe programme. Provided that this happens, a huge research centre related to oncology science will be built. The Vice-Rector of MU-Varna also pointed out that one patent application had already been filed and four were in the process of preparation.
