Assoc. Prof. Dr. Antonia Kisheva – a specialist at the Second Department of Non-Invasive Cardiology at UMHAT “St. Marina” – Varna, has been elected President-Elect of the Bulgarian Society of Cardiology for the 2028–2030 term of office. The election was held by the General Assembly of the Society during the 19th National Congress of Cardiology, which took place in Sofia from 8 to 11 October. This is the first time when a cardiologist from Varna will head the Society. Her opponent in the closely contested election was Prof. Dr. Dobrin Vasilev from Medica Cor Specialised Hospital for Active Treatment in Cardiology – Ruse. Both candidates presented clear strategic visions for the future development of the organisation.
The Bulgarian Society of Cardiology plays a leading role in the efforts to protect cardiovascular health and reduce the burden of cardiovascular diseases. “Coordinated action is required among cardiologists working in different areas of the speciality, physicians from other medical disciplines, other medical and healthcare professionals, patient organisations and all relevant stakeholders,” underscored the future President of the Society. Assoc. Prof. Dr. Antonia Kisheva is a Fellow of the European Society of Cardiology,
and her research interests lie in the fields of arterial hypertension, heart failure, obesity, atrial fibrillation, stroke and other areas of cardiovascular medicine.
Several other specialists from UMHAT “St. Marina” – Varna also participated actively in the 19th National Congress of Cardiology, presenting their research through oral presentations and scientific posters. The participants included Prof. Dr. Yoto Yotov, Dr. Tatyana Chalakova, Dr. Tanya Ivanova, Dr. Mesut Rushid and Dr. Veronika Vicheva from the Second Department of Non-Invasive Cardiology; Dr. Dilyana Tonkova, Dr. Rositsa Hristova, Dr. Radostina Angelova and Dr. Rozen Grigorov from the Second Department of Invasive Cardiology; Assoc. Prof. Atanas Angelov and Dr. Svetla Slavcheva from the First Department of Cardiology; Assoc. Prof. Yavor Peychev from the Department of Cardiac Surgery; Assoc. Prof. Maria Dimova, Dr. Vesela Avramova and Dr. Iliyan Kanchev from the Department of Propaedeutics of Internal Medicine; Assoc. Prof. Maria Levkova and Assoc. Prof. Mari Hachmeryan from the Medical Genetics Laboratory; and Dr. Sevim Shefket from the Clinical Laboratory. During the healthcare professionals' session, presentations were made by Senior Nurse Maria Georgieva from the Second Department of Non-Invasive Cardiology, Senior Nurse Kalina Katrandzhieva from the Department of Radiation Therapy, and Nurse Ivanka Stoyanova from the First Department of Cardiology.
