On 17 January 2025 a framework agreement for cooperation between Medical University - Varna and the European Biotechnology Thematic Network Association (EBTNA) was signed. The agreement was signed by Prof. Dr. Dimitar Raykov - Rector of MU-Varna and Prof. Dr. Munis Dundar - President of EBTNA.
The purpose of the agreement is for the two institutions to collaborate in education and training courses for students, to participate in joint research and development activities in the field of scientific research, as well as to carry out scientific exchanges in the field of medical genetics, biocatalysis, systems biology, metabolic engineering, bioprocess engineering, nanotechnology, biosensors, omics sciences, biotechnology and ethics, pharmaceutical biotechnology, etc., maintaining the highest standards of research and following current scientific themes.
The event was also attended by Prof. Dr. Violeta Iotova - Vice Rector Scientific Activities, Prof. Dr. Mario Milkov - Vice Rector International Cooperation, Prof. Dr. Prof. Dr. Todorka Kostadinova - Director of "Accreditation, Quality and Project Activity", prof. Prof. Diana Ivanova - Chairperson of the MUVE team Managing Committee and prof. Svetlana Fotkova - Dean of the Faculty of Pharmacy. They presented various aspects of the scientific and project activities at MU-Varna, as well as the active practical activities in the field of genetics, rare diseases, biotechnology, etc.
Prof. Dundar presented prof. Raikov a certificate of membership in EBTNA, and the Rector in turn handed to prof. Prof. Dundar presented him with an honorary plaque of MU-Varna. prof. Dundar said that he would be happy to organize a congress for the members of the association in Bulgaria and also said: “The European Biotechnology Thematic Network Association (EBTNA) is an organisation that was founded in 1996 and since then has presented both academic and industrial projects that help establish links between the biotechnology industry and science. The EBTNA was established in 2007 by Mariapia Viola-Magni with official statutes signed by the Notary in Perugia."
Prof. Dr. Muniz Dundar is Professor of Medical Genetics and Head of the Department of Medical Genetics at Erciyes University, Kayseri, Turkey. He is the founder and head of the Department of Medical Genetics at Erciyes University. He defined four genetic syndromes in the medical literature: 'Dundar syndrome', 'Dundar acropectoral syndrome', 'Scoliosis, blindness and arachnodactyly syndrome' and 'Multiple congenital anomalies and mental retardation syndrome'.
He has participated as project coordinator and research assistant in many research projects and has prepared articles published in international journals. He is President of EBTNA and Editor-in-Chief of The EuroBiotech Journal.
