Medical Student at MU-Varna Has Volunteered at the Hospital in Omurtag

The management of MHAT - Omurtag has informed BTA that a medical student has volunteered at the hospital in Omurtag. The third-year student at the University of Varna Simeon Dimitrov is now in his hometown, and for two weeks he has been assisting the medical specialists, who are exhausted and overworked due to the extra working hours under the pandemic.

This ensued after the Regional Crisis Headquarters in Targovishte called on medical professionals to support their colleagues during the weekend.

The young man "enters the battle against COVID" with the confidence that he can help his future colleagues and the patients. He overcame the coronavirus disease during the summer months and has developed enough antibodies. He is ready to donate plasma if needed - said in front of BTA his mother Desislava Dimitrova, who works at a health institution but is not a medical specialist.

Dimitrov has grown up in a family where health and care for people have always been the talk of the day. His father Dimitar Dimitrov is currently working as a paramedic at the Emergency Department in the city. Witnessing the exhaustion of his colleagues, the future physician has made up his mind to enter the COVID Department.

"Once he is ready and consciously willing to help - let him do it - with all his heart and soul!" says his mother.

At present there are five physicians with coronavirus disease at MHAT - Omurtag, while others have been quarantined. A total of 23 nurses are absent from work due to COVID, 14 of them - with proven coronavirus infection. The management said that due to the worries and fear of infection, some specialists refused to start working at the COVID Department.
