Medical University–Varna Celebrates with MHAT–Dobrich the 160th Anniversary of the Medical Institution

With a ceremonial concert-performance on 18 June, MHAT–Dobrich marked the impressive 160th anniversary of the establishment of the healthcare institution. The event was held under the sign of memory, gratitude, and a view to the future, and brought together representatives of national and local government, members of parliament, mayors, hospital directors, members of the academic community, public figures, partners, and friends of one of the oldest and most significant healthcare institutions in Bulgaria. 


Among the official guests at the event were the Rector of Medical University–Varna, Prof. Dr. Dimitar Raykov, and the Director of Accreditation, Quality and Project Activities Directorate, Prof. Todorka Kostadinova, who extended congratulations to the management and staff of the healthcare institution for their contribution to the development of healthcare in the region.

On behalf of the academic management and the community of MU–Varna, the Rector Prof. Dr. Raykov personally presented a congratulatory address to the Executive Director of MHAT–Dobrich, Dr. Georgi Zhelyazkov, along with a special gift – a painting depicting a seascape by the Varna artist Ms Estel Angelova. In the congratulatory address from MU–Varna, special emphasis was placed on the long-standing and fruitful partnership between the University and MHAT–Dobrich in the training of the future healthcare professionals.

“The collaboration between Medical University “Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov"–Varna and healthcare facilities in the region creates opportunities for education, professional development, and retaining young specialists in Bulgaria – a cause of immense importance for the future of the healthcare system. May the hospital continue to develop as a modern healthcare institution that successfully combines its rich heritage with the challenges of contemporary medicine," the congratulatory address to the management and personnel of the healthcare institution further stated. Emphasis was also placed on the long-standing cooperation among the partners – Medical University –Varna, MHAT–Dobrich, the Swiss Hospital Association, and the hospital in Schaffhausen, Switzerland.

During the anniversary evening, the guests followed an emotional presentation of the hospital's history – from its establishment in 1866 to its consolidation as a modern multidisciplinary hospital providing high-quality medical care to the residents of Dobrich Region. A particularly moving moment was the ceremony honouring individuals who have made exceptional contributions to the hospital's development throughout the different stages of its history. Prof. Dr. Dimitar Kamburov – Rector of MU –Varna during the period 1990–1999, and Prof. Iskren Kotsev – a long-serving lecturer at MU–Varna were among the honoured personalities.

The rich artistic programme, featuring organ performances, choral singing, dance formations, and talented local artists, contributed to the festive atmosphere and turned the anniversary into a real celebration of gratitude toward generations of medical professionals, with a view toward the distinguished history of MHAT–Dobrich, and the work of dozens of generations of healthcare specialists and employees who have dedicated their daily lives to serving people.

In their greetings the official guests highlighted the important role of MHAT–Dobrich for the health of the residents of the region and expressed confidence that the medical institution will continue to be a symbol of professionalism, humanity and development.​
