UMHAT "Saint Marina” – Varna Has Accomplished the First Nine Months of the Year with Excellent Results

Varna University Multiprofile Hospital for Active Treatment "Saint Marina" – Varna continues to achieve excellent results in the implementation of its activities. 

State-of-the-art equipment and unique methods of diagnosis, therapeutic, conservative and surgical treatment are successfully applied at UMHAT "Saint Marina" - Varna. From the beginning of 2022 until 30th September 2022, 37 145 patients passed through the hospital, 28 587 persons who needed medical care were examined in the emergency rooms. During the same period 36 bone marrow transplants were performed, of which 25 autologous and 11 allogeneic ones, thus, bringing the total number of bone marrow transplants up to 229 since the establishment of the Centre in 2015. This is the only medical institution in the country that provides bone marrow transplant treatment both for adults and children. Patients from all over the country seek diagnostics and treatment at University Hospital "Saint Marina", and the number of patients coming from settlements outside Varna is approximately 11 000 for the period 1st January 2022 – 30th September 2022.

  UMHAT "Saint Marina" – Varna is the most modern high-tech hospital in the country, and the only one that provides complete, comprehensive treatment for oncological patients. It is equipped with two nuclear magnetic resonance (NMR) apparatus, three angiography machines, two cutting-edge scanners, the most modern PET scanner and SPECT scanner, three linear accelerators, ultrasound apparatus, endoscopes, a robotic system for dissolution of cytostatic drugs, robot – assisted surgery, modern hospital information system, Centre for Translational Medicine, cell therapy, etc.

The University Hospital is a centre for innovation in the field of medical technology, methods of combating socially significant diseases, health management, university education and science, and provides methodical guidance to the medical institutions in the region and in the country.

Founded with capital amounting to BGN 19 491 000, today the registered capital of University Hospital "Saint Marina" – Varna is BGN 50 177 260. The medical institution is constantly improving its financial performance. At present, the hospital has no arrears to suppliers, nor uncovered losses from previous years. The absolute liquidity ratio as of 30th September 2022 is 2.04, or the cash available is fully sufficient to cover all liabilities, which is a criterion for extremely successful crisis management.

UMHAT "Saint Marina" relies on a stable personnel resource. The major training base of MU – Varna is the employer of 1 952 employees – long-term experienced professionals and new young specialists, of whom – 31 professors, 59 associate professors, 54 chief assistant professors, 182 assistant professors, 178 physicians, 678 healthcare specialists, 376 orderlies and 394 other personnel. Meanwhile the hospital is continuously investing in the career development of its staff.

The people working there are indisputably the most valuable asset of UMHAT "Saint Marina". Therefore, in 2022 the management of the medical institution raised the salaries of all employees, and the regular gross salaries for the first nine months of 2022 amounted to BGN 12 214.24 per head of clinic, BGN 4 325.00 per doctor, BGN 2 479.27 per healthcare specialist and BGN 1 479.22 for other staff, or the average gross salary at the University Hospital amounts to BGN 2 606.08 throughout the period 1st January 2022 – 30th September 2022.

A strategic advantage for the development of UMHAT "Saint Marina" is the unique to the country collaboration with Medical University – Varna, to which the rights of the principal in the management of the medical institution have been granted. A great part of the hospital staff are also university professors. Along with the medical and diagnostic activities, the University Hospital conducts a huge amount of scientific research, and it is absolutely no coincidence that Medical University – Varna once again ranks first among the medical universities in Bulgaria.
