Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov, Rector of the Medical University - Varna and Dr. Asen Medzhidiev - Acting Minister of Health, signed an agreement to grant the rights of the sole owner of the capital in the management of the University Hospital for Active Treatment "St Marina" Varna to the Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" - Varna. This happened at a solemn ceremony in the First Auditorium of the University, in the presence of all the Academic Council members, the management of the University Hospital and representatives of the Ministry of Health.
The signing of this agreement is a precedent in the history of Bulgarian healthcare after the separation of universities and university hospitals. I believe that during the new period, for which the university has been granted the management of the university hospital, excellent and significant results will be achieved from this interaction not only for the university and the hospital, but also for Bulgarian medical education and science and for Bulgarian health care", said Prof. Ignatov in conclusion.
The Acting Minister of Health, Dr. Asen Medzhidiev, told the audience that the occasion that brought them together earlier today was extremely important not only for health care in the Varna region, but also for the entire health system in the country. "This is a very important moment for both institutions. I am convinced that this will greatly help the educational process of prospective physicians. This will raise the qualifications of our young colleagues and prepare them for the many challenges in our profession," the minister added.
The results of the University Hospital "Saint Marina" for the period January 1st - September 30th, 2022 are also excellent. No obligations to the state, municipality and staff. No arrears. This became evident from the report of Prof. Dr. Silva Andonova, executive director of the largest medical and diagnostic structure in northeastern Bulgaria, for patients treatment from all over the country.
Before signing the agreement, Minister Medzhidiev visited the Varna University Hospital and were acquainted with the excellent working conditions and the highly specialized equipment with which the clinics and laboratories are equipped.
The visit ended at the Museum of the History of Medicine, where the minister and his team were introduced to the rich exposition and listened to a short talk. The museum, which is the only one of its kind in Bulgaria, is one of the many unique and successful joint projects between Medical University - Varna and University Hospital "St Marina" - Varna.
