Today, the Deputy Mayor of Varna, Mr. Kosta Bazitov, has presented the Varna Award to the Rector of Medical University – Varna Prof Dr. Valentin Ignatov in connection with the 60th Anniversary of the University. This high distinction was awarded to MU – Varna for the outstanding contribution of the University to the training and accomplishment of specialists in the field of Medicine, Pharmacy, Public Health and Health care. The prestigious award was also conferred to the University for the active participation of the students and lecturers in the public and cultural life of Varna, and in the establishment of the international prestige of the Sea Capital as a University City.

"I would like to thank first of all to the public of Varna for the high evaluation it has given to the students and lecturers at Medical University – Varna", Prof. Ignatov said upon receiving the award. "Prosperitas vestra finis nostra!" is the motto of our University, and it means that your success is our goal! Thank you!".
The traditional Varna Awards for Contribution to Education, Science and Culture were presented on the eve of 24 May, at an official ceremony in the "Yunashki Salon". A total of 28 prominent personalities and creative teams have been conferred to the high distinction Varna Award for 2022.

The prestigious award in the field of Natural Sciences was conferred to Prof. Temenuga Stoeva – Head of the Department of Microbiology and Virology at the Faculty of Medicine at MU – Varna and Head of the Laboratory of Microbiology and Virology at UMHAT "St. Marina" – Varna. The high distinction was awarded to Prof. Stoeva for her outstanding contribution to the establishment and logistics, achieved under emergency circumstances, of the first high-tech PCR Laboratory in Eastern Bulgaria, based on the territory of UMHAT "St. Marina" – Varna.
"It is a huge honour for me to receive this award because it is an evaluation of the work done under emergency circumstances two years ago, in a state of work overload. In this sense, I would like to thank the entire team of the Laboratory of Microbiology and Virology at UMHAT "St. Marina", who did their job extremely professionally – as they have always done. I would like to thank all colleagues who in one way or another were related to the COVID–19 round-the-clock shifts. I wish to express my heartfelt gratitude to the management of MU – Varna, in the person of Prof. Valentin Ignatov, as well as to the management of the University Hospital, in the person of Prof. Silva Andonova, for their huge support."
