Shumen Affiliate of Medical
University - Varna welcomed its first students. 20 nurses and 20
midwives are going to be trained at the new Affiliate, where the academic year 2015-2016
was opened on 14th September.
The inauguration ceremony
began with a liturgy for health and God's blessing, served
by the Metropolitan of Varna and Veliki Preslav Ioan.
The celebration continued
with a welcome speech by the Rector of the University Prof. Dr. Krasimir
Ivanov, in which he emphasized that the interest in MU-Varna was growing constantly
every passing year. "I congratulate you because today you become students at
one of the most modern and dynamically developing universities in Bulgaria. I
assure you that launching your career path here, you've already made a safe
investment in your future," he said.
The Mayor Krasimir Kostov
also welcomed the first-year students and the guests at the event with the
words: "The inauguration of this Affiliate is an emblematic event for the
city of Shumen, which used to be the cradle of the Bulgarian Enlightenment. I
believe that our descendants will be able to say the same thing about our city
in the decades to come. From the Renaissance until today the best investment the
society can do is the investment in the education of children and young people,"
he said.
The event went on with the Oath
of the Freshman. A history reenactment, entitled "The Beginning"
, was presented by Tradition National
Association. Shumen Riding Club and Ensemble Shumen also took part in the programme.
The event was attended by a
number of representatives of the state and local government - the city Mayor
Krasimir Kostov, the Deputy Mayors of Healthcare and Education Sedat Kadir and
Zhivka Toneva, the chairman of the City Council Prof. Georgi Kolev, the
Ombudsman Ivan Kapralov, the Deputy Regional Governor Petko Sharenkov, the Rector
of Shumen University Prof. Margarita Georgieva, medical doctors and university teachers.
Congratulatory
addresses to the University Management and the Affiliate were sent by the District
Governor of Shumen - Mrs. Donka Ivanova, Bulgarian Medical Association,
Bulgarian Red Cross, the manager of the Integrated Oncology Centre, EOOD Shumen
Dr. Sotir Karanikolov and others.
As
a symbol of the new beginning, the Rector Prof. Krasimir Ivanov and the Director
of the Affiliate Prof. Sonya Toncheva planted a tree in the courtyard in front
of the Affiliate a few minutes before the beginning of the ceremony.
