The Rector Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov presented one of the highest awards of Medical University-Varna "Blue Ribbon Badge of Honour" at a solemn ceremony, held on 22nd May in First Auditorium of MU-Varna. Following an old tradition, on the eve of the celebration of 24th May -the Day of the Slavonic Alphabet, Bulgarian Enlightenment and Culture, the academic community of the University paid tribute and respect to the most prominent individuals and teams who, with their deeds, scientific thought, erudition, achievements and dedication to the professional field, have written in golden letters the history of MU-Varna.
The "Blue Ribbon Badge of Honour" Award of MU-Varna is presented for merit in the field of science and higher education and aims to honour with public recognition lecturers, scientists and research teams for their high professionalism and contribution to the academic, research and medical activities. This year the distinction was awarded to:
Prof. Dr. Petar Genev/Head of the Department of Medical and Biological Sciences in the period 2006-2009 and Head of the Department of General and Clinical Pathology, Forensic Medicine and Deontology from 2009 to 2019/;
Prof. Dr. Krasimir Gigov/Director General of the Bulgarian Red Cross since 2012 to the present, a member of the academic staff and the Departmental Council of the Department of Medicine of Disaster Situations and Maritime Medicine at MU-Varna/;
Prof. Sonya Toncheva /Head of the Department of Health Care in the period 2006-2015 and Director of Shumen Affiliate since 2015/;
Assoc. Prof. Diana Dimitrova/Deputy Director of Medical College–Varna within 2008-2015 and Director of Veliko Tarnovo Affiliate since 2015/;
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Binna Nencheva/member of the academic staff and the Departmental Council of the Department of Ophthalmology and Visual Sciences, with more than 40 years of teaching and professional experience in the field of Ophthalmology/;
Assoc. Prof. Dr. Maria Zhelyazkova-Savova/Head of the Department of Preclinical and Clinical Pharmacology and Toxicology in the period 2004-2013/;
Eng. Rositsa Markova /a long-time expert in the administration of Academic Affairs at MU-Varna/.
Posthumously the "Blue Ribbon Badge of Honour" was awarded to Prof. Ivan Merdzhanov/who dedicated more than 30 years of his life to his work as a lecturer at MU-Varna, Director of the Department of Foreign Language Teaching, Communication and Sports from 2014 to 2022/
MU-Varna also presented a team award to the Publishing Department on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of the establishment of the University Press as an independent unit at the University.
