Meeting of the Rector of MU-Varna Prof. Dr. Dimitar Raykov with the ERA Chair of TRANSTEM Dr. Manlio Vinciguera


The Rector of MU-Varna Prof. Dr. Dimitar Raykov greeted in his office Dr. Manlio Vinciguera, the ERA Chair under the TRANSTEM project. At the meeting also participated the Deputy Rector of Science Prof. Dr. Violeta Yotova, the Deputy Rector for International Cooperation Prof. Dr. Mario Milkov as well as the Director of the Research Institute Prof. Dr. Anton Tonchev.

Dr. Vinciguera presented the research achievements of the TRANSTEM Team in the field of translational stem cell biology and the recently purchased equipment for a research laboratory with the TRANSTEM funding by the European Commission. During the meeting were discussed the upcoming goals for the international team of researchers who are focused on developing new applications of stem cells for diagnostic and therapeutic purposes, new projects and expanding the international cooperation of Medical University – Varna in the research work.

Prof. Raykov expressed his satisfaction with the new opportunities for applying and funding international scientific projects to the team, noting the long experience of Prof. Yotova and Prof. Tonchev, as well as their outstanding authority in the international scientific environment, as an extremely important factor for achieving the goals set. 



Prof. Raykov and Dr. Vinciguera expressed their confidence that the successful applications to new research funding will lead to a continuation of TRANSTEM research and will ensure the sustainability of the accumulated human and material resources of the project Team.

Dr. Manlio Vinciguera was born in 1976 in Catania, Italy. Since 2020 he was appointed ERA Chair at the Research Institute of MU-Varna via the TRANSTEM project (www.transtem.org). He obtained a degree in biomolecular science from the University of Catania, Italy, in 1999. He was awarded a PhD degree in Internal Medicine in 2004 from the Geneva University in Switzerland. He has also been trained at the European Laboratory of Molecular Biology in Italy and Germany (2005-2011).

Dr. Vinciguera is a member of Who's Who in Gerontology, the Society of Cancer Epigenetics (CES), Via Academy – Italian Top Scientists, the International Association for Cell Ageing (ICSA), the European Diabetes Research Association (EASD), the European Association for Hepatic Research (EASL), the American Association of Cell Biology (ASCB). Dr. Vinciguera has an H-index 60 and over 10 000 citations of his publications.
