MU-Varna Opened Modern Simulation Training Rooms for Dental Medicine

New simulation training rooms for dental students at Medical University - Varna were opened today with a religious ceremony for health and success. The ribbon was cut by the Minister of Education and Science of the Republic of Bulgaria Mr. Krasimir Valchev, the Rector of MU - Varna Prof. Dr. Krasimir Ivanov and the Mayor of Varna Mr. Ivan Portnih. The investment in high-tech simulators and equipment provided by MU-Varna for the training of dental students exceeds BGN 3 million.

Prof. Ivanov addressed the audience with the words, "We are present at the third major stage of the development of the Faculty of Dental Medicine. The first stage was the construction of the Faculty building, the second - the construction of the only one of its kind Dental Centre in our country, and the third stage is the opening of the latest generation simulation training rooms."

"The Republic of Bulgaria has placed its trust in MU-Varna since the very accreditation of the Dental Medicine Department. Very quickly has the University established itself as a Dental Medicine training centre. Today we can say that the University is absolutely competitive with its very good training facilities. I wish everyone to benefit from the new acquisitions, and to the University I would like to wish strengths for even greater development", said Mr. Krasimir Valchev.

At the opening, the Mayor of Varna Mr. Ivan Portnih, pointed out, "I am positive that not only Varna, but our whole country takes pride in the achievements of MU-Varna, and the evidence of these achievements, besides the training facilities, which everybody is able to see and appreciate, is the number of international students, which has been growing every year. I would like to thank Prof. Ivanov and the entire academic management for the fruitful partnership and cooperation. Varna Municipality has provided the management of the Eye Hospital to the University, and I am sure that pretty soon it will assume the same look, working atmosphere and level of equipment that students need to be trained at. You can always rely on the Municipality to be your active partner. Good luck!"

The official guests at the opening were also the District Governor of Varna District Mr. Stoyan Pasev and the Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Bulgarian Dental Association Dr. Nikolay Sharkov, as well as representatives of municipal and hospital establishments and media.

The new training rooms are equipped with 50 state-of-the-art dental simulators produced by a world-renowned German manufacturer. The simulators provide great opportunities for advanced preclinical training of students and dental practitioners in full capacity in the fields of the majority of the clinical dental specialties: prosthetic dental medicine, pediatric dental medicine, operative dentistry and endodontics, periodontics, dental implantology and oral surgery.

Taking advantage of the simulators, dental students in the very first years of their study, will be able to master basic manipulations of the aforementioned specialties, being immersed in an environment as close to the actual clinical work as possible, with modern top-class peripheral devices.

The newly equipped simulation training rooms are the only ones of this kind not only in our country but also in the whole region. Besides the simulation units, the rooms are equipped with a modern digital training system. With the help of a CAD-system, the work of every student is monitored and assessed, whereas students have the opportunity to examine and correct their performance at the workplace, with the help of three-dimensional images obtained after scanning their working models.

The rooms are also equipped with intraoral digital scanners, through which students will be trained in the methods of digital dental medicine as early as in their pre-clinical training. The simulation training rooms have a real-time audiovisual linking system with the lecturers conducting the training, so that they can communicate without having to leave their workplace.

The new asset of the Faculty of Dental Medicine gives rise to conceptual changes in the training in the field of Dental Medicine and its modernization to the level performed by the leading universities in the world. The training rooms will also be used for training in the programme of postgraduate education of dental doctors.
