The academic management of Medical University-Varna is pleased to announce that by Decision No 86 of 7 February 2024 of the Council of Ministers Specialised Hospital for Active Treatment in Ophthalmology–Varna EOOD has been designated as a University hospital. This is a huge achievement in the over 50 years of the history of the medical establishment, thanks to the trust that the Municipality of Varna voted to Medical University-Varna with the act of granting the management rights of Specialised Hospital for Active Treatment in Ophthalmology–Varna.
With the designation of SHATO–Varna as a University hospital, the objectives set for MU-Varna in relation to the eye health of the citizens and the training of specialists have been fulfilled.
According to the Medical Establishments Act, University hospitals are multi-profile or specialised hospitals and carry out activities in the following directions: clinical training of undergraduate and doctoral students in Medicine and/or Dental Medicine and/or Pharmacy; clinical training of students in the training programmes of "Health care" professional field; postgraduate training of doctors of Medicine, doctors of Dental Medicine, pharmacists, health care professionals.
