MU – Varna Scientists Publish Featured Articles in Nutrients


Two scientific publications by researchers from the Department of Physiology and Pathophysiology at Medical University – Varna have received special recognition from the international scientific journal Nutrients. The studies address topics of growing public importance – the relationship between diet and symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), as well as the potential impact of dietary habits on anxiety and depression.

The article Dietary Carbohydrates and ADHD Symptoms: A Systematic Review by Dr. Gabriela Panayotova and Dr. Antoniya Hachmeriyan has been included among the Featured Articles of Last Quarter in the international scientific journal. The publication is one of the few studies highlighted on the homepage of the journal among the publications from the recent months. This provides it with significantly greater international visibility and draws the attention of the scientific community to the timely topic of the possible relationship between dietary carbohydrates and symptoms of attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD).

Second publication  – From Plate to Mind: Scientific Perspectives on Foods That May Influence Anxiety and Depression, authored by Dr. Antoniya Hachmeriyan, Dr. Gabriela Panayotova, and Dr. Hristiyana Todorova, has been selected as an Editor's Choice. The article provides a scientific perspective on the relationship between nutrition, anxiety, and depression and examines the role of various foods and nutritional components in mental health.

The two acknowledgements underscore the relevance of the scientific work of the researchers at MU – Varna in the field of the relationship between nutrition, brain function, and mental health, and contribute to the international visibility of the University.

Both publications were funded by the Fund for Support of Publication of Articles and Scientific Works in Journals with an Impact Factor (IF) by Structures of Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" – Varna.​
