University Hospital “Sveta Marina” – Varna Is under Huge Pressure

A total of 19 departments and wards of the medical institution are transformed into structures for treatment of COVID-19 patients. 467 beds have been set up in the sectors thus designated. 74 beds are intended for patients with coronavirus infection in need of intensive care. 641 physicians, nurses and orderlies are directly involved in the treatment of the patients hospitalised with COVID-19. The other teams provide emergency and urgent care, including diagnosis and treatment of children, oncology and haematology patients and patients with psychiatric disorders.

The spendings of the medical institution for medicines, consumables, protective equipment, electricity, water, heating, oxygen, and last but not least for the remuneration of the staff, which is subjected to constant work overload, are rocketing. Monthly costs for electricity, water, heating and oxygen alone amount to more than 400 000 BGN. More than 8 000 patients with coronavirus infection, including patients from all over North-eastern Bulgaria, have been in UMHAT "Sveta Marina" – Varna since the beginning of the outbreak of COVID-19.

The management of the University Hospital expresses its gratitude to the entire personnel for their utmost responsibility and professionalism, and appeals to everyone for strict compliance with the containment measures in order to withstand and overcome this challenge.
