High Tech MUVE Conference MUVATHON
„Ways forward – integration, cooperation, open minds“
Date: April 27-28, 2026; Venue: St. Konstantin & Elena Resort, Varna, Bulgaria
Dear Colleagues and Partners,
The Medical University of Varna is pleased to invite you to participate in a scientific event dedicated to innovations and translational achievements in medical science and the way forward after the current period of direct European support of research work in Bulgaria is over. Since 2023, the Medical University of Varna has been implementing the project “Medical University of Varna: Enhancing Translational Achievements in Medicine (MUVE-TEAM)" under Contract No. BG-RRP-2.004-0009-C02. The project is funded by the European Union – NextGenerationEU, through the National Recovery and Resilience Plan of the Republic of Bulgaria, under the procedure BG-RRP-2.004 “Establishing a Network of Research Universities". This project focuses on strengthening research in priority areas, expanding global networks, and fostering innovation through intellectual property protection and technology transfer. With strong institutional support, we are now rapidly scaling these ideas to maximize research output and collaborative success.
Within the framework of this initiative, nine research groups and fifteen innovation groups have been actively working in the University's priority scientific areas:
- Nutrition and Quality of Life
- Implant Medicine and Genetics
- Neurosciences
- Oncology and Rare Diseases
- Public Health and Disease Management
- Stem Cell Biology and Transplantation
We named the event MUVATHON to underline the long-term vision of our University towards new achievements, but also that we fully realize this is a process that just started.
The Medical University of Varna is a leader in Bulgarian medical research, boasting high citation rates per paper and a strong history of international collaboration. While Bulgarian medicine has historically focused on implementing external innovations, MUV is shifting the paradigm toward original discovery and translational science. The MUVATHON event marks the final stage of our project, serving to showcase our results and define the roadmap for future innovative partnerships. We warmly invite students, researchers, innovators, and policymakers to join this meeting. Our goal is to foster a vibrant exchange of ideas, strengthen existing ties, and lay the foundation for sustainable new partnerships as we chart our path forward.
We would be honored by your participation and contribution to this important scientific dialogue.
Yours sincerely,
Prof. Dimitar Raykov, MD, PhD, DSci
Rector of the Medical University - Varna
