The Rector of MU – Varna Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov met the Minister of Tourism Mr. Ilin Dimitrov at a work meeting. The focus of the discussions was the intersection between health and tourism, the opportunities and prospects for the development of health tourism in Bulgaria, as well as tourism and health care and medical assistance in the major resorts. The meeting was also attended by Prof. Dr. Silva Andonova, Executive Director of the largest hospital in North-Eastern Bulgaria UMHAT "St. Marina" – Varna, Prof. Todorka Kostadinova, Vice-Rector for International Cooperation, Accreditation and Quality and the Executive Director of Golden Sands Resort Mr. Kiril Kirilov.

During the meeting Prof. Ignatov emphasised on the necessity of providing medical assistance in the areas of Orthopaedics, Cardiology, Neurology and Paediatrics on site in the resorts for the peace of mind of the tourists and in order to save human lives. He assured Minister Dimitrov that UMHAT "St. Marina" – Varna is ready to accept a large number of patients in all medical fields except Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
He pointed out Estreya Residence Hotel in Saints Constantine and Helena Resort as a good example of cooperation in the areas of health and tourism, where patients receive qualified medical care at the Clinic of Physical and Rehabilitation Medicine at UMHAT "St. Marina" – Varna.
As a sign of gratitude for the good work done by MU – Varna, Minister Dimitrov presented an honorary diploma of the Ministry of Tourism and an icon to the Rector Prof. Dr. Valentin Ignatov in the end of the meeting. For his part, Prof. Ignatov presented an honorary plaque of MU – Varna and a diploma for the significant contribution to the development and establishment of Medical University - Varna in the field of medical and health tourism to Minister Dimitrov.
