The Faculty of Medicine at Medical University "Prof. Dr. Paraskev Stoyanov" – Varna has consolidated its position as a leader in research, both within the University and at national level. Representatives of the Faculty actively participate in national and international projects and can boast more than 530 publications in prestigious Bulgarian and international scientific journals. More than 80% of the publication activity at MU-Varna for the period 2021-2024 was performed by researchers at the Faculty. This was announced in the Report of the Dean Prof. Dr. Yoto Yotov during the General Assembly of the Faculty, held on 28th April in the Rectorate building.

This year 561 new students have been admitted to the Faculty, and more than 300 of them are foreign residents. The number of students admitted by state order was increased by 10%. A specialised internship in Emergency Medicine was introduced as part of the state pre-graduation traineeship in the beginning of 2024. The establishment of a new Department of Urology was also announced during the meeting.
Over the past year more than BGN 2.5 million have been invested in modern technologies for the training of future doctors. The teaching staff of the Faculty was increased by 10% within the reporting period, with the average age being 40.2 years.
The results of the student surveys indicate high satisfaction with the training – approximately 75% of the young people believe that MU-Varna is on a competitive level with the Bulgarian and leading foreign medical universities. More than 90% of the graduates prefer to launch their professional career in Bulgaria.
In his address to the participants at the meeting, the Rector of MU-Varna Prof. Dr. Dimitar Raykov congratulated the team of the Faculty of Medicine for the outstanding achievements and emphasised its significant role in the development of the University.
Another recognition for the quality of training has been the high evaluation of the National Evaluation and Accreditation Agency, which has selected the Faculty of Medicine to represent the Bulgarian medical education before the World Federation of Medical Education.
The General Assembly adopted the report of the management of the Faculty by an absolute majority. Partial elections for new members of the Faculty Council were also conducted. The elected members are as follows: Prof. Dr. Zornitsa Zlatarova, DSc – from the quota of the habilitated persons; Dr. Turgay Kalinov, PhD and Dr. Doychin Nikolov, PhD – from the quota of the non-habilitated persons, and Rositsa Musinska – a representative of the undergraduate and doctoral students.
